Worzel Gummidge
Shame on you. And you thought scarecrows weren’t real. Well, when I say not real, I mean that they are real, they’re just not real, if you see what I mean. No? OK, I’ll get on with it then.
It all starts when two children, Sue and John move to the Scatterbrook Farm for their holidays with their dad. On their way there, John has to answer the call of nature (take a leak behind the bushes) but unfortunately his flow is disturbed by an old scarecrow who apparently waves at him.
Later, the children decide to investigate and while in Ten Acre Field they come face to face with Worzel Gummidge – you’re average walking, talking scarecrow, with a Robin in his stomach for good measure.
Worzel thinks he’s people. Apart from the fact that he’s made of hay, he can’t sit down, and has more than one head (he keeps the others tucked up warm in a barrel) he is pretty much human.
A strange fella though. Worzel has his own language called Worzeleeze, and there are just some human things he doesn’t quite understand. The children make friends with him, and do their best to keep him out of trouble.
There’s not much more to say really, other than it’s Jon Pertwee at his finest!
